Cited by the Israeli Ministry of Environmental Protection on Sunday, the report titled “The Climate Action Monitor 2023,” issued last week, presents systematic data on the progression of climate-related hazards and offers insights into how to prepare for and adapt to the climate crisis.
According to the report, in Israel, each year between 2080 and 2099 is expected to have 80 days above 35 degrees Celcius, up by 45 days from the yearly average recorded in the two decades starting in 1995.
It is the highest expected increase among the 51 OECD countries and partner countries 291bet examined in the report.
Also, the Israelis are estimated to experience 145 tropical nights each year, with temperatures exceeding 20 degrees Celsius. This is a rise of 48 nights compared to that recorded in the period of 1995-2014, marking the second-largest increase among the 51 countries.
Tropical nights contribute to the development of urban heat islands and may harm human health.
It also forecasts a significant increase in Israel’s areas exposed to drought conditions, as indicated by an index that combines precipitation and potential evapotranspiration. ■
